The 32HLV Amplifier is used with 105 Series or 32-106 Event Detectors to provide 32 channels of low current and low threshold resistance test capabilities. This low-resistance sensing capability is accomplished while maintaining a useful bandwidth of over 3 Megahertz and Minimum Event Duration of 500 nanoseconds.

These amplifiers rely on the Resistance Threshold and Minimum Event Duration settings chosen via the 105/106 Event Detector. The flexibility of the 32HLV is underscored by the fact that the each amplifier is custom assembled to user-selected sense current and open circuit voltage specifications. Specifications for two common types of 32HLV Amplifiers are presented below:

Examples of Typical 32HLV specifications

Milliohm sensing amplifier
  2.5 milliamp sense current
  40 milliohm - 2 ohm resistance threshold
  20 mV open circuit voltage

Low-milliohm sensing amplifier
  10 milliamps sense current
  5 - 250 milliohm resistance threshold
  20 mV open circuit voltage

Features
Detects event signals down to 40 microvolts
Event signal resolution 20 microvolts
Sense current selections from 5 microamps to 10 milliamps
Minimum event duration of 0.5 microseconds
Robust design for EMI/RFI immunity
Low open circuit voltage limiting down to 1 millivolt
Custom specifications on sense current and open circuit voltage

Each channel is a combination current source and analog amplifier. The test specimens are connected with a three-wire-ohm method forming 32 simple independent continuity loops. With the current flowing through the samples, the voltage across each channel is sensed with a typical resolution of 20 microvolts or 10 milliohms at 2 milliamp source current.

The output cables of the amplifier are directly connected to the front panel inputs of a 105/106 Series Event Detector for resistance threshold detection and event data storage. The Minimum Event Duration is set by the Event Detector front panel OR equal to 0.5 microseconds, whichever is greater. The compact design of the 32HLV reduces cost and permits convenient location of the amplifier close to the test specimens. Up to four amplifier cards could be used with the Model 128-105, one for each bank of 32 channels. Special chassis racks are available for multiple 32HLVs.
